The system views humanity as being composed of recognisable types which have been observed and referred to throughout history. Each type has particular physical characteristics and with practice one can assess the type of another person on first meeting them. This offers uncanny insight into someone’s tendencies, their strengths and weakness and probable reactions when under pressure.

In our era of globalisation and instant communication we need this perennial wisdom more than ever.
It is vital for us to understand ourselves and other cultures both quickly and at a deep level in order to interact effectively. Applying this knowledge personally, professionally and internationally promotes harmony and respect and enables each of us to make our unique contribution to society.

Western science studies phenomena through specialization; dismantling and separating the cosmos into ever smaller compartments. Ancient sages sought synthesis – finding connections in which elements of the cosmos reflected each other.

As a child I was fascinated by the Apollo mission and especially the buggy built to drive on the Moon. It had to meet very specific requirements; to function with less gravity and to cope with Moons surface. Each of us has a vehicle which we are operating on planet Earth and to know the vehicle means we can find ways to flourish in harmony with its capabilities.

To judge and try to change the vehicle is pointless – the vehicle cannot change the vehicle any more than your car can change its own tyre! Simply viewing the characteristics of ones vehicle objectively changes the relationship between ones Self and the vehicle and offers new ways to respond to one’s life experience.

It is also useful to separate hardware from software -
Our type is the hardware that we inhabit and cannot be changed any more than we can change the colour of our eyes.
Our software is our life experience, culture, education and attitudes. This we can develop and evolve through training and the choices we make. We will always be expressing the software through the hardware. Our software can mitigate some of the limiting tendencies of our type and ideally, complement and express the strengths. If we are in a situation or occupation which is fundamentally unsuited to our type then this awareness can be a powerful stimulus to make beneficial changes.
